As well as being the young and narcissistic emperor of Konan Country, Hotohori is one of the seven seishi (or protectors) of the legendary Suzaku no Miko, savoir of the country, who arrives in the form of a schoolgirl named Miaka. Hotohori stops admiring himself long enough to become entangled in a love triangle with Miaka and Tamahome, the men competing for the goddess-in-waiting's affections. Things become more complicated when the lovely court princess, Nuriko, also sets her sights on the emperor. Nuriko is a girl with secrets, and rather high ambitions, and doesn't take kindly to Hotohori's interest in Miaka. Exactly who Hotohori ends up with I have no idea, I just know it isn't either Miaka or Nuriko.
